It was a great pleasure and a privilege to play at this years Koblenz International Guitar Festival. It was an honour to share the stage with the wonderful Sabrina Vlaskalic and Tristan Angenendt, and an absolute joy to perform (and also rehearse) with the ladies of the fantastic Koblenz International Guitar Festival String Quartet. A big thank you to all of you, and of course Georg Schmitz and the Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy.
It was also nice to be introduced onto the stage by my old pal Nigel Boyle. I could get used to it.

I’m very excited to be playing at this years Koblenz International Guitar Festival. I’ll be performing the Quintet for Guitar and String Quartet Op. 143 by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the Koblenz International Guitar Festival String Quartet. Nach ein paar kleinen „Warm-Up“ Konzerten in Weißenthurm, Koblenz und Bad Ems, ist unser Auftritt beim Weltmusik Festival Horizonte sehr gut über die Bühne gegangen. Wir haben Barock, spanische und südamerikanische Music von Vivaldi, Bach, de Falla, Nin, Piazzolla, Gnattali, Villa-Lobos und Gismonti gespielt. Perfektes Wetter, volles Haus, tolle Atmosphäre, es war einfach ein Super Abend! Dazu auch eine schöne Kritik in der Rhein-Zeitung.
„Da tut den Ohren und dem Bauch der Besuch in der Festungskirche sehr gut. Der klassische Vortrag des Elliot Duos mit Violoncellistin Mareike Schünemann und Gitarrist Russell Poyner lässt tief durchatmen, obwohl das Barocke sowie die spanischen und südamerikanischen Rhythmen auch zu Wallungen führen.“ Rhein-Zeitung.

Violoncello und Gitarre, zwei Instrumente mit unvergleichlichem Timbre, mit Wärme, Tiefe und süßem Schmelz. Mareike Schünemann (Cello) und Russell Poyner (Gitarre) verbinden leidenschaftlich und virtuos diese Klangwelten und spannen dabei einen Bogen vom Barock über spanische Musik bis hin zu den Rhythmen Südamerikas.
After a break of a couple of years since our last performance together, myself and the actor Nigel Boyle, are happy once again to be performing with each other. And what better time to do it than in 2016, which sees the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare. To commemorate this special occasion we are extremely pleased to be performing at this years Koblenz International Guitar Festival. „If Music be the Food of Love“; is a unique project, bringing together the two art forms of theatre and music. It marries scenes from plays, poems and sonnets by William Shakespeare with Elizabethan music and song, predominantly from Shakespeare’s contemporary, John Dowland. The performance is conceived as a „play“, and divided into „acts“ dealing with themes of love, music, melancholy, war and death.
The appeal and individuality of this performance is best summed up in the words of the Australian music journalist, Therese W. Saba, who wrote:
“Nigel Boyle performed scenes from Hamlet, Henry V, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare’s Sonnets, and changed from one dramatic character to the next before our eyes. It was a journey through all the experiences of life: the anger, the sorrow, the pain of love and the laughter. Russell Poyner is a unique performer, who is equally accomplished as a singer and as a classical guitarist. This is a rare talent in the classical music world because of the demands of both roles; Russell Poyner manages to divide himself into two and give sensitive interpretations on both his chosen instruments at the same time.”

Last week we had the pleasure to perform as part of the Mittlerhein Musik Festival for there „musical-hike“, in the hills along the river Rhein. The weather was perfect (which of course helped as we were playing outside), there was a very special atmosphere, a lovely audience and a glass of wine waiting for us at the end. Thank you to all who came.

So the album is finally out there! We were able to set it on its merry way, with our release concert on the 18th July, at the Horizonte Festival. It was a fantastic evening, the weather was perfect, the church was packed to the rafters (they were queuing outside to get in), with a wonderful atmosphere and wonderful audience. To put it simply, we had a great time and it was great to be a part of this wonderful festival! A big thank you to all those who came to support us. We also received a very nice review about the concert in the Rhein-Zeitung newspaper, „…But it was the Dawidek-Poyner Duo that managed to turn it into a very special evening. They performed masterfully, and captured the hearts of their audience…“

I’m once again happy to be part of this year’sKoblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy which takes place from the 18 – 25 May 2015. As in previous years I’ll be teaching at the Junior Academy, where as well as technique classes and one to one lessons the young guitarists will be working together as an ensemble, playing music by Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Jaime Zanamon. This year I also have the pleasure of sitting on the Jury for the 1st round of the Koblenz International Guitar Competition “Hubert Käppel”.

Ich freue mich sehr wieder beim diesjährigen Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy18. – 25. Mai 2015 dabei zu sein. Ich werde bei der Junior Academy unterrichten. Die jungen Gitarristen und Gitarristinnen erhalten nicht nur technische Workshops und Einzelstunden, sondern spielen auch zusammen in einem Ensemble. Gespielt werden Werke von Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy und Jaime Zanamon. Ich habe auch dieses Jahr wieder die Freude bei der ersten Runde des Koblenz International Guitar Competition “Hubert Käppel” in der Wettbewerbs-Jury zu sitzen.

Together with the oboist Monika Dawidek, we will be playing as part of a special event presenting this year’s Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy, which takes place on the 18-25 May 2015.
