Last week @ Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy 2017

It was a great pleasure and a privilege to play at this years Koblenz International Guitar Festival. It was an honour to share the stage with the wonderful Sabrina Vlaskalic and Tristan Angenendt, and an absolute joy to perform (and also rehearse) with the ladies of the fantastic Koblenz International Guitar Festival String Quartet. A big thank you to all of you, and of course Georg Schmitz and the Koblenz International Guitar Festival & Academy.
It was also nice to be introduced onto the stage by my old pal Nigel Boyle. I could get used to it.

P.S. And the best thing is I get to do it again at the end of August!

Thank you Kai Müller for the great photos!

New videos from the Elliot Duo

To start off the new year, here are a few live video recordings by the Elliot Duo. We chose to record a couple of pieces from our current programme, so here is the first movement from the „Sonata for Cello & Guitar“ by the Brazilian composer Radames Gnattali, two movements from the Spanish Suite – „Seguida Espanola“ – by the Cuban composer Joaquin Nin, and the famous „Air“ from the Orchestersuite BWV 1068 by Johann Sebastian Bach. Hope you enjoy them.

Sonata For Cello & Guitar I. Allegretto Comodo by Radames Gnattali (1906-1988)

Seguida Espanola I. Vieja Castilla by Joaquin Nin (1879-1949)

Seguida Espanola III. Asturiana by Joaquin Nin (1879-1949)

Orchestersuite BWV 1068 II. Air by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)

Home recording – Homenaje pour „Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy“ by Manuel de Falla.

After having not played this piece for quite a while, I’ve had to play it rather a lot over the last few weeks. It’s a piece I’ve played over many years, in exams, masterclasses, competitions, concerts, or just for the hell of it, and for me, it is still one of the finest pieces in our repertoire. If I’m totally honest, I just love playing it. Let’s not forget, that this was the piece that finally inspired Benjamin Britten to write his monumental „Nocturnal“ for solo guitar (if I’m not mistaken). Anyway, a little home recording – just for fun – of Homenaje pour „Le Tombeau de Claude Debussy“ by Manuel de Falla.

P.S. Please excuse the sound quality, it’s just a video camera, after all. I’m hoping there will be a professional sound recording (courtesy of sound Maestro Ole Muth) of this piece coming sometime in the not too distant future.

Cello & Guitar: Introducing the Elliot Duo & Horizonte 2016

I’m happy to announce my newest project together with the cellist Mareike Schünemann. We are very excited to be playing at this year’s Horizonte Festival on the 16 July at the Festung Ehrenbreitstein, where we will be performing a programme of Baroque, Spanish and South American music. More information about the festival and tickets are available here… Hope to see you there!

Lola’s Lullaby: New piece, new recording, new guitar.

Last year my wonderful little niece Lola, was christened. The question was – what can I give her as a gift? So after some thought it came to me… I’m very lucky to have a lot of very talented friends and commissioned my pal and composer Louis Clark to write Lola a little piece. So here it is, „Lola’s Lullaby“, brilliantly recorded (by another one of those talented friends), Tonmeister extraordinaire – Ole Muth. It’s also the first recording with my new guitar made by Gitarrenbau Wichmann. I hope you like it as much as I do.
